Fields are Ready to Run this Sunday

June 8, 2023

Tasmania will be the focus of the Australian distance running scene this weekend, with the 15th edition of the McGrath Launceston Running Festival.

Some 1500 runners and walkers will line up across 4 different events.  Among them will be 6 Olympians, nearly 100 national level runners and a plethora of fitness conscious participants embracing winter with an elevated heart rate.

Specific race previews can be viewed on the ½ marathon, men’s 10km and women’s 10km.

A record field of 380 have entered the Think Big ½ Marathon which also doubles as the Tasmanian ½ Marathon championships.  Since it began in 2000, the event has continued to produce fast times, being the fastest course in Australia in 2020 and 2022.

Over 200 entrants are coming from outside Tasmania, with the unusual ratio of 56% being males.  It’s a turn from recent trends, with most fun runs since 2013 attracting a greater percentage of women than men.

The Launceston 10km and Think Big ½ Marathons will be livestreamed once again, with camera’s on both the lead men and women.  Click here for vision on event morning with the timetable being;

5km run/walk - 8:00AM
